Fall Classic Final Game Attracts Over 50 Million Audience Members Across the US, Canadian and Japan Regions.

The nail-biting extended matchup that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays by one run attracted a total 51 million spectators across the US, Canadian, and Japan territories. MLB reported this is the highest-rated Fall Classic Game 7 since the 1991 edition contest featuring the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Ratings Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic contest drew over 27 million audience members on Fox channels, Fox Deportes and Fox’s streaming platforms. Per ratings data, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It additionally stands as the top-rated World Series matchup after the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This marks a 16% improvement over the last finale featuring the Washington Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19 million.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 placed fourth, the fourth game ranked seventh, the fifth game came in eighth, and the third game landed in 13th place.

International Viewership Figures

In Canada, the climactic game averaged 11.6M viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports. This was the most-watched English-language program in the country after the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final contest began at 9 PM in the local time zone, it attracted 12 million. This came after the previous Friday’s sixth game – in which Fall Classic MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up a single run in six innings – recorded over 13 million spectators, making it the highest-rated World Series game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Series Totals and Trends

The full seven-match World Series averaged 15.71 million audience members on Fox, a 2% increase from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This marks the initial instance since 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has recorded viewership increases for two straight years.

Counting the opening game telecast on the Univision network, the total US average reached over 16 million. The total World Series viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded over 8 million watchers, an 8% rise over the previous year and Fox’s best playoff ratings since 2017.

MLB announced that the Fall Classic was broadcast in 203 nations and regions by forty-four media partners in 16 different tongues.
